Parking: Where can I park? How early do I need to arrive?
There is street parking around the church and in the parking lot of the Hoffman-Schneider Funeral Home located on the corner of 17th and Main (one block west of the sanctuary). Sunday School begins at 9:00 a.m. followed by worship at 10:15 a.m. Give yourself a little time because you may need to walk a short distance.
Dress: What should I wear when I visit?
Come as you are to worship God. Dress is casual and varied at First Presbyterian Church. Some men may wear dress shirts and pants with a tie and sport coat, while others may wear a shirt and jeans. Women wear slacks, dresses, skirts, or jeans. All visitors are welcome.
Childcare: Do you offer childcare?
First Presbyterian Church welcomes family members of all ages to our care and worship. We provide specialized loving childcare for our youngest ones, utilizing trained professional childcare providers and church volunteers. Our primary goal is to make children feel welcome and at home. We want all parents to feel confident and secure knowing that their children are in a safe and happy place. Our paid childcare staff has been carefully screened. The nursery includes cribs, a rocking chair, age-appropriate toys and books, and a diaper changing station.
Schedule: Childcare for infants and toddlers is available on Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the nursery. On Sunday mornings in the summer (usually early June through Labor Day) childcare is provided from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Communion: How often is Communion served? Will I have to take part?
Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. All baptized believers of Jesus may partake. It is not mandatory that you participate in communion. In place of wine we serve grape juice and gluten-free bread is always available.
Length: How long is the service?
The worship service begins at 10:15 and usually lasts an hour. Occasionally it may run an extra 5-15 minutes.
Music: What style of music do you use in your services?
Our service is a blended worship, opening with praise songs led by a small praise band of piano, guitar, drum, saxophone, and percussion and followed by traditional music played at the piano and/or organ. A choir or special music complements the worship each week.
Do I stand, sit, or kneel? What else do I need to know about your service?
During the worship service there are times that the congregation will be invited to stand and times where it will sit. No one is obligated to stand.
Following worship, there is a time for fellowship when people very often remain to greet one another and enjoy refreshments provided by church members. Visitors will find a welcoming congregation that likes to visit after worship.
Communication: Will I need to sign anything? Will I need to introduce myself during the service? Will anyone contact me?
When visitors arrive in the sanctuary, a greeter will welcome them and an usher will give them a bulletin. FPC folks may stop and say hello before the service, but visitors are not asked to stand and introduce themselves. There are Visitor cards in the pews for people to complete and place in the offering plates if they are interested in having more information or a follow-up letter or visit.
