Outreach at First Presbyterian Church
First Presbyterian Church seeks to respond to Christ’s command to proclaim the Gospel in word and deed.
Ten percent of the church’s budget is given to mission and the church participates in special offerings (e.g. Joy Offering, One Great Hour of Sharing, Peacemaking, Souper Bowl of Caring, and Birthday Sunday for the American Bible Society). Gifts to the local food pantry, Dubuque Rescue mission, and to Café Ministry are also part of the congregation’s witness. The church participates in the annual CROPwalk for Hunger, leads monthly worship services at Manor Care Nursing Home and Bethany Home, and offers Vacation Bible School to the downtown neighborhood.
With historic ties to the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary (UDTS), the church helps train future pastors and encourages seminary students and their families as they participate in the church’s ministry. Scholarships to UDTS support Master of Divinity distance education students.
The FPC family is a mission-minded congregation.
We willingly join together to serve in ministry to the homeless, hungry, and needy. Weekly donations to the food pantry are collected. We also participate in Café Ministry at First Congregational Church four times a year, walk in the CROPwalk, provide worship services to the residents at Manor Care and Bethany Home, support the Dubuque Rescue Mission, Opening Doors, and offer a Vacation Bible School.
Our church is a member of the Dubuque Downtown Christian Outreach, an ecumenical ministry of various churches and organizations, seeking to serve the heart of Dubuque.
